May 16, 2023 – Systems Limited and Amazon Web Services (AWS) co-hosted Culture of Innovation at Amazon, a collaborative event dedicated for c-suite cadre across industries. The event attended by the top brass of professionals from the IT industry, was a raving success featuring insightful discussions around fostering customer centricity, nurturing creativity, and cultivating the next generation of innovators. The event was an amalgamation of transformation, innovation, and inspiration for the top brass in the technology sector.

Sarah Irfan from the marketing team set the tone for the event by welcoming the guests and introducing keynote speakers to the audience.

The event was opened by Asif Peer, CEO & MD at Systems Limited, who reflected on the history of Systems Limited’s partnership with AWS, and emphasised on the importance of strengthening the relationship to drive digital transformation and innovation.

Moving forward, Reuben Jayasinghe, Head of Innovation Culture for Amazon Web Services in ASEAN, outlined Amazon’s journey from starting as a bookstore to becoming one of the largest conglomerates in the world. He provided an in-depth exploration of strategies Amazon uses to create a culture where customer satisfaction and innovation are given high priority across all levels of the company.

Led by Reuben, the session delved into how enterprises can encourage innovation among employees and create a value-centric culture that drives innovation in the long run. While elaborating how they cultivate an environment that promotes experimentation, swift decision-making, calculated risk-taking, and agility, he said, “Our primary goal at Amazon is to validate our way forward as we build to solve customer’s problems.”

He concluded his thorough discourse by mentioning the story behind Amazon Go, “The reason behind creating Amazon Go was not to enter the physical grocery store market, rather it was to facilitate the bankers in New York and to simplify their experience of standing in the long queues of restaurants and coffee shops. That idea was, too, created by an employee.”

Up next was Taruni Ramamurthi, Head of Asia Emerging Markets at Amazon, who expanded on the vision and approach shared by Reuben. She added, “We’ve seen the idea, the hypothesis, and have pushed the boundaries of objections to be at this point. We have got a long way to go, and our leadership principles are a testimonial of what Think Big really is.”

The event concluded with business and technology professionals engaging with each other over a networking session and some delectable food.
